Santorini is less obviously a children's destination than some Greek islands, but the volcano crater hike by boat and Perissa's dark volcanic beach give it a distinct character that older kids and teens respond to well. FamiVentura's Santorini guides cover the island's most memorable experiences for families, from the Oia sunset to the black sand beaches and the caldera boat trips.
Santorini's highest village with a Venetian castle at the peak and better views than Oia, without the crowds. The layered architecture - Byzantine, Venetian, and modern stacked on top of each other - makes the village worth exploring beyond the castle. Combine with Santo Wines five minutes below by car. Allow 60-90 minutes.
Emporio Village: Defensive Architecture as Survival Strategy
A medieval village designed as a defensive maze against pirate raids - the narrow lanes, covered passages, and central tower were all deliberate engineering choices. The whole layout only makes sense when you understand what it was built against. Walk the perimeter first to understand the outer logic, then enter the lanes. The village is 10 minutes from Perissa beach, and most visitors never come here.

Megalochori: Wine Economy Before Tourism
The stone walls throughout Megalochori are punctuated with old cellar doors - kanava - where wine barrels aged before export to Russia and northern Europe. This village was part of a centuries-old wine trade, not a tourist economy. Late afternoon (16:00-18:00) for the best light on the stone lanes. Combine with Metaxy Mas restaurant 10 minutes away for a complete inland afternoon.
