Off the Beaten Path
Santorini's highest village with a Venetian castle at the peak and better views than Oia, without the crowds. The layered architecture - Byzantine, Venetian, and modern stacked on top of each other - makes the village worth exploring beyond the castle. Combine with Santo Wines five minutes below by car. Allow 60-90 minutes.
Activities
Perissa's wide organized beach with flat promenade access makes it manageable for the full age range. Come early - the black volcanic sand reaches extreme temperatures by midday, which is a problem for barefoot toddlers and uncomfortable for everyone. The watersports facilities and windsurfing school work for older kids and teens. The shallow morning water is calm enough for the youngest.

Order tomato keftedes at every taverna you visit - they're the simplest way to taste what the volcanic soil actually produces. The PDO tomato variety that goes into them is only grown on this island. Most accessible of all the local specialties for the full age range.
