Off the Beaten Path
The only real livestock market left in Mallorca, held every Wednesday in the village of Sineu on the central plain. Goats, rabbits, and pigeons traded by local farmers in the lower square; produce and cheese in the upper section by the church. For all ages for different reasons: animals at ground level for toddlers, cultural immersion and market atmosphere for everyone else. Take the train from Palma (45 minutes, €3.50), arrive by 09:30.
Activities
The Drach Caves contain one of Europe's largest underground lakes and a 1,200-metre circuit through chambers carved over 100,000 years. The tour ends with live classical musicians performing on boats drifting across the illuminated water. A concert that operates as live theatre in a natural acoustic chamber. Younger children focus on the scale and the boat ride; older teens process the geological timeline and the unusual performance space. The first tour slot (available online in advance) reaches full capacity by mid-morning.

Food
Pa amb oli at an inland village bar is the food experience most worth seeking out on Mallorca regardless of age. Country bread, ripe tomato, olive oil, sobrassada. The quality of the oil and the ripeness of the tomato are the variables; the technique is centuries old. The bars where the best version is found are in Sineu, Petra, Santa Eugènia, and similar interior villages — not on the tourist promenades.
