V&A Waterfront
The V&A Waterfront is Cape Town's most visited destination and honestly deserves the attention. A working harbour surrounded by restored Victorian warehouses houses restaurants, shops, and maritime activity in equal measure. Fishing boats unload their catches while tourists and locals eat fresh fish and chips steps away, creating an authentic working-harbour atmosphere mixed with mall-like convenience. Table Mountain rises dramatically behind everything, framing the entire experience. The waterfront is exceptionally stroller-friendly with wide pedestrian areas, playgrounds, and restaurants that welcome kids with high chairs and menus. The downside is the crowds, especially weekends, and the premium pricing throughout. It's busy with both tourists and locals, which means lively but not quiet. The shopping feels like a mall, which removes some charm, but the food and water access are authentic. Families easily spend half a day here combining food, shopping, and play without fighting crowds or seeking parking. It's touristy but also functional as a neighbourhood.
