Kitsilano
Kitsilano runs along the north-facing slopes above English Bay from Granville Island west to the UBC endowment lands. Kits Beach is the neighborhood's social center in summer: a wide sandy stretch with a heated outdoor pool, volleyball courts, and a grassy park backed by the mountains and facing downtown across the bay. West 4th Avenue and West Broadway are the main commercial streets, with independent restaurants, specialty grocery stores, yoga studios, and outdoor gear shops that reflect the neighborhood's fitness-conscious, locally-oriented character. The Kitsilano Pool on the beach is the largest outdoor pool in Canada. The neighborhood is exceptionally walkable and connects easily to Granville Island by path or water taxi. Families with children find the pace and scale comfortable, the playgrounds on the beach are good, and the accommodation options range from vacation rentals in character houses to a handful of boutique hotels.
