Vancouver sits in an extraordinary setting, with mountains, ocean, and dense forest all within reach of the city center, and Stanley Park's seawall walk makes that immediately tangible. Granville Island's fish and chips, eaten outside with seagulls making their opinions known, is the kind of meal that becomes a trip memory rather than just lunch. Steveston, a historic fishing village 30 minutes south, is the kind of low-key half-day that Vancouver locals quietly prefer to the busier tourist circuit. FamiVentura's Vancouver guides cover the city's outdoor life, waterfront neighborhoods, and day trips north to Whistler and along the coast.
These itineraries are designed to give your family a feel for what the city has to offer when you don't have fixed plans. Think of them as a starting point: swap in your favorite picks from our guides, add that restaurant a friend recommended, or skip a stop to linger somewhere you love.
Day 1
Seawall, Market, and the Kids Market
Day 1 stays at sea level: the seawall, Granville Island, and the False Creek Ferry. All flat, all stroller-accessible, all designed to absorb the energy of a toddler who has been on a long-haul flight.
08:00
Early Start for the Seawall
food
30 minutes
Eat at the hotel and leave early. The Stanley Park seawall is magical in the morning before the recreational cyclists and rollerbladers build up, the light comes across English Bay from the east, the mountains to the north are clear before the cloud builds, and a toddler on a balance bike or in a stroller has the path largely to themselves before 09:00. Pack a snack bag: the Fish House in Stanley Park doesn't open until 11:30, and a toddler who gets hungry mid-seawall is a problem that a banana and some crackers solves. Bring layers even in summer, the coastal wind off English Bay can be 5-8°C colder than the air temperature suggests.
09:00
Stanley Park Seawall and Vancouver Aquarium
activity
90 minutes
Walk or cycle from hotel to Stanley Park eastern entrance: 15-20 minutes depending on hotel location
The seawall section from the park's eastern entrance past the totem poles at Brockton Point to the rose garden is the right length for a toddler morning: approximately 3km with a flat, wide paved path and enough visual events (the totem poles, the harbour seaplanes taking off, the container ships in the inlet, the North Shore mountains across the water) to keep a toddler engaged. The Vancouver Aquarium inside the park is the optional add-on: the touch pool with sea stars and sea urchins is the toddler target, the beluga whale habitat is visually dramatic, and the giant Pacific octopus (a tentacled creature 3 metres across pressing against the glass) is startling for small children. Keep the aquarium to 45-60 minutes with a toddler and exit before the afternoon school groups arrive.
11:00
Lunch at the Fish House in Stanley Park
food
60 minutes
Walk or stroller push from aquarium area through the park: 20 minutes
The Fish House is a 1930 heritage building inside Stanley Park serving BC Pacific seafood in a room that handles families comfortably. The salmon is grilled simply and reliably; the fish and chips are good; the clam chowder is warm and manageable for toddlers who want something soft. The outdoor terrace in good weather is better for toddlers than the interior, a contained outdoor space with enough room for a toddler to walk without disturbing other diners. Book ahead for weekends. The drive (or stroller walk) back through the park toward the Georgia Street exit takes 15-20 minutes through old-growth Douglas fir and cedar, which is itself worth the slow return pace.

13:15
Hotel Nap
rest
75 minutes
Taxi from Stanley Park Georgia Street exit to hotel: 15 minutes
The walk or taxi from Stanley Park back to the hotel lands a tired, well-fed toddler in nap-ready condition by 13:15. The morning has been long and outdoor (the seawall, the aquarium, the park) and the afternoon requires energy. A 75-minute nap minimum before Granville Island. If the toddler won't settle in the hotel, the False Creek Ferry from the Aquatic Centre (5 minutes from the park exit) does a 12-minute loop, the boat motion and gentle engine vibration produces sleep in most toddlers reliably. Depart for Granville Island by 15:00.
