Barcelona

Get the T-16 Card for Free Kids Metro & Bus

Children aged 4 to 16 ride Barcelona's entire metro, bus, and tram network completely free with the T-16 card. Register the card in person at the T-mobilitat Help and Information Centre, bringing your child's passport or ID and a photocopy of your family book. The card costs €4.50 and is issued immediately. This single card saves families hundreds of euros on transport during their stay. Under 4? They travel free anyway, no card needed.

Tips

Register in person for immediate issuance rather than waiting 5-10 business days for online applications
Card is valid until six months after child's 16th birthday
Under-4s travel free automatically without needing a card

Download TMB App for Tickets, Real-Time Transit, and Route Planning

The TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) app is essential for navigating Barcelona's metro and bus system. Buy single tickets, travel cards, and passes directly in the app with your credit card, and skip lines at ticket machines. The app displays real-time metro and bus arrivals, letting you know exactly when your transport is coming. English, Spanish, Catalan, and French language options are all available. Download it before you arrive to have transport sorted immediately upon landing.

Tips

Single journey tickets valid for 75 minutes with unlimited transfers
T-16 child cards must be registered in person, but once active, they work on gates without needing the app
The app works offline for viewing saved tickets but requires internet for purchasing

Book Sagrada Familia and Park Güell 2-3 Months in Advance

Barcelona's two most famous attractions require advance booking and fill up completely during peak season, especially slots between 10 AM and 2 PM. Book your tickets online directly on their websites for guaranteed entry at your preferred time. Each ticket gets a 30-minute entry window, so a 9:30 AM ticket lets you enter until 10:00 AM. Children under 6 enter Park Güell free, but everyone still needs a ticket. Hitting these in early morning or late afternoon beats the crowds and heat.

Tips

Book as soon as you finalize travel dates, months ahead if possible
Early morning slots (8:00-10:00 AM) are cooler and less crowded
Kids under 10 won't get audio guides at Sagrada Familia, but skip it and save money
