U Street Corridor African American Cultural History Walking
Walking U Street as a family produces a rare kind of day where everyone thinks about the same things simultaneously. This was DC's answer to Harlem before segregation, Black-owned businesses, jazz legends, history that's still contested and alive. The street is welcoming without performing itself for tourists, the food is excellent, and the murals are significant. Walk the 10th to 14th Street core at whatever pace works.
