Bangkok surprises most families by being more manageable than expected, especially once you stop fighting the traffic and start using the river. The Chao Phraya commuter boats carry locals past temples and markets for the same fare tourists pay, and it's a genuinely good way to see the city. Or Tor Kor Market near Chatuchak is the cleanest, best-organized fresh market in the city and a real alternative to the more chaotic tourist spots. Pick up a Rabbit Card at any BTS station for seamless travel across the subway and skytrain, and get one for each family member from day one. FamiVentura's Bangkok guide includes 15 picks across activities, food, off-the-beaten-path finds, and excursions, plus 2-day and 5-day itineraries, a neighbourhood guide, and a survival guide.
Ancient ruins rather than a reconstruction, the UNESCO-listed former Thai capital is spread across an island 80 kilometers north of Bangkok. Massive Buddhist temples in various states of decay, headless statues in open courtyards, and the genuinely strange sight of tree roots growing out of stone walls. Thick jungle 2.5 hours northeast of Bangkok where gibbons call in the morning and wild elephants occasionally cross the park roads. The 7:30am-noon window is when wildlife activity is highest.
Open 24/7 for overnight stays. Day visits start at 8am, guides meet at the visitor center

Duration
Half day (4-5 hours) to full day (8 hours)

Bang Krachao Cycling and Biking
A forested peninsula south of Bangkok accessible by a short ferry, where you hire a bicycle and spend a few hours pedaling through riverside villages, local temples, and canal paths. The whole point is the contrast with the city you just left. Kids and teens with basic cycling ability cover the main routes easily, and the pace is entirely self-directed. Going early before the midday heat is essential.
