Nara Park and Todai-ji Temple
The deer make the morning and Todai-ji makes the afternoon. Younger children spend as long as older ones want to give the deer crackers — the interaction is immediate and real regardless of age. The Todai-ji interior (the largest wooden building in the world) and the bronze Buddha are best appreciated with brief background context: tell kids the statue was cast in 752 and has been repaired multiple times since. The walk from Nara Station through the park is 30 minutes of deer encounters.

Tips
- Budget deer cracker money for both age groups — it's the shared activity that sustains the most interest.
- The crawl-through pillar at Todai-ji is the highlight for younger children; older ones can explore the full interior.
- Wear closed-toe shoes in case of deer attention — they're harmless but can push if they smell food.
