Mount Batur Sunrise Trek
A 2am departure and a 2-hour climb by headlamp on volcanic terrain — this is one where kids and teens converge on the same experience without needing much adjustment. Teens handle the darkness and early hours easily; older kids (10+) manage the climb with the guide's pace. The steam-vent eggs at the summit land the same way for both: absurd and memorable. The descent completes by 9am. Worth noting that children under 10 will find the combination of the pre-dawn start and the 2-hour hike in darkness genuinely hard — this is best saved for the older end of the kids range.

Tips
- Book through accommodation or the official guide association — the guide manages pacing for the whole group and that matters when you have a range of fitness levels on the mountain
- Everyone needs a jacket and beanie regardless of how warm it is in southern Bali: summit wind chill at 1,700m is a different climate
- Set the expectation with younger kids that it's a genuine hike in darkness, not a stroll — the summit experience is the reward for the effort, not the climb itself
